Sorry for the lack of updates to anyone who might actually be reading this. Work has been a bitch. Anyway, Back on topic.
Super Smash Brothers Brawl will be coming state side in about three weeks and there's already been a huge boom of spoilers and game play video on youtube. From what I've seen the game looks beautiful. The character models are detailed right down to the threads on Mario's overalls. The textures that I've seen also look great. It makes one wonder if the developers actually tried to push the Wii's Hardware. The game play, from what I've read is completely different than the gameplay in Melee. For example, the characters themselves fall slower than they did in the previous installment, and there is also the probability that your character will stumble and fall. I personally don't really like the whole falling thing. This is a video game after all, set in a world that doesn't exist, therefore, why should physics like falling matter? One stumble could give your opponent the edge they need to completely obliterate because of, dare I say it, luck.
Other features of the game include a few fixes to things such as wavedashing, which is used by the so-called "pros" to play the game "correctly'. Now, lets think about this for a second. If you're abusing glitches in the game to do things your average player couldn't do, does that really make you good? Doubtful. lets also take a look at the tier list from Melee, The two top tier characters, fox and falco, are really good for abusing the physics engine. Characters, such as Link (my main) can do these sorts of exploits, but doesn't benefit them because of their speed. Many forums I've visited are filled with outrage about these things taken out of the game. Many have even said that they don't think brawl is worthy for use at competitions, and to you guys, I say, STFU n00b. Welcome to the ever changing world of gaming.
I've also heard rumors of downloadable content for Brawl, mostly characters and trophies. This would support a hard drive theory for the Wii, cause come on, those USB ports need to be used for something other than charging my Ipod. Right? Also, there has been confirmation of downloadable content for Guitar Hero 3 and Rock Band (yeah, it got confirmed for Wii a few weeks ago.) The Wii's internal memory is way too small to house this content, so i suppose the next logical step is for Nintendo to release some sort of external wii hard drive, or just support for external drives. More speculation to come soon.
Moving on to features. Brawl has so many different modes to choose from, it should keep everyone busy for awhile. Aside from the classic mode, there's also a story mode, where all of the characters team up to fight... Well who ever is behind this whole problem in trophy land, or whatever the hell they decided to place this story. Personally I'm excited for the stage builder. There are so many possibilities for stages. So many levels to create. Oh it fills my heart with joy.
I'll update more with any other information I get that I see exciting.
