Smash Bros. Brawl.

Sorry for the lack of updates to anyone who might actually be reading this. Work has been a bitch. Anyway, Back on topic.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl will be coming state side in about three weeks and there's already been a huge boom of spoilers and game play video on youtube. From what I've seen the game looks beautiful. The character models are detailed right down to the threads on Mario's overalls. The textures that I've seen also look great. It makes one wonder if the developers actually tried to push the Wii's Hardware. The game play, from what I've read is completely different than the gameplay in Melee. For example, the characters themselves fall slower than they did in the previous installment, and there is also the probability that your character will stumble and fall. I personally don't really like the whole falling thing. This is a video game after all, set in a world that doesn't exist, therefore, why should physics like falling matter? One stumble could give your opponent the edge they need to completely obliterate because of, dare I say it, luck.
Other features of the game include a few fixes to things such as wavedashing, which is used by the so-called "pros" to play the game "correctly'. Now, lets think about this for a second. If you're abusing glitches in the game to do things your average player couldn't do, does that really make you good? Doubtful. lets also take a look at the tier list from Melee, The two top tier characters, fox and falco, are really good for abusing the physics engine. Characters, such as Link (my main) can do these sorts of exploits, but doesn't benefit them because of their speed. Many forums I've visited are filled with outrage about these things taken out of the game. Many have even said that they don't think brawl is worthy for use at competitions, and to you guys, I say, STFU n00b. Welcome to the ever changing world of gaming.
I've also heard rumors of downloadable content for Brawl, mostly characters and trophies. This would support a hard drive theory for the Wii, cause come on, those USB ports need to be used for something other than charging my Ipod. Right? Also, there has been confirmation of downloadable content for Guitar Hero 3 and Rock Band (yeah, it got confirmed for Wii a few weeks ago.) The Wii's internal memory is way too small to house this content, so i suppose the next logical step is for Nintendo to release some sort of external wii hard drive, or just support for external drives. More speculation to come soon.
Moving on to features. Brawl has so many different modes to choose from, it should keep everyone busy for awhile. Aside from the classic mode, there's also a story mode, where all of the characters team up to fight... Well who ever is behind this whole problem in trophy land, or whatever the hell they decided to place this story. Personally I'm excited for the stage builder. There are so many possibilities for stages. So many levels to create. Oh it fills my heart with joy.
I'll update more with any other information I get that I see exciting.

Relaxation, Katamari Style

Ah what a long day. One of those days where you just need to unwind and not think too much. This is why I love Katamari Damacy. Its such a simple and soothing game. You don't really need to think too much about what's going on, no need to worry about a story, or having to backtrack to get a forgotten item, no obnoxious bosses or anything. Just good clean rolling fun. I rediscovered the game this past weekend while playing video games with a special someone, and since then I've been playing about an hour or two a day. This of course, mixed in with some Smash Bros. Melee (Which can also be relaxing, though using it to train for brawl is pointless, more on that later). I'm really hoping they'll release it for the Wii at some point. Using two wiimotes to move the katamari around, shaking them both to make it do the charge,  flicking them to do the quick switch. A boy can dream, no? So how about you guys? What do you play when you're in the mood to relax?

No More Heroes.

I figure why not start things off with a game review? No More Heroes, Grasshopper studios ridiculous Star Wars meets Grand Theft Auto for the one and only Wii. Where to begin? No More Heroes throws you into the life of Travis Touchdown, an otaku gone assassin to, well, get into Sylvia Christel's pants. Who is Sylvia Christel? Well, to put it quite bluntly, she's a little french girl gone nuts. She's an agent for the United Assassins Association, which travis accidently joins when he kills the 11th ranked assassin, and pretty much takes his place.
The game starts off throwing you right into your first mission, which is to kill number 10. The game's story revolves around these missions, each mission is obtained after you get a certain amount of cash, and how do you get said cash? By doing odd jobs, such as coconut collecting, which leader to assassination jobs, like killing the owner of Pizza Butt. The mini games weren't too shabby. They made use of the Wii's waggle functions. The combat itself however, only limits the waggle features to the final blows of an attack, as well as how high or low your attack range is depending on how high or low you hold the Wiimote. The combat flows nicely, and the upgrades to your Beam Katana (also read, Light Saber) really add a nice depth to the combat system, making it not so stale at times.
I have to say I really loved the story, I wont give away any spoilers, but I will say that I did not expect it to end the way it did. Yes it's quite the mind fuck. Though everything seems to make sense at the the end, if you really sit down and think about it.
Other things that made me giggle was how you saved. Yes, saving involves sitting on the can and taking a dump. more or less. You can also go around Santa Destroy and pick up new costumes, wrestling moves, beam katana upgrades, and new abilities.  I give it a 9.5 out of 10 angry otaku heads.

Not so humble beginnings.

Where shall we begin? I am an Otaku. Someone who's obsessive over japanese culture, specifically anime and video games. As well as other not so Japanese things, like apple and caffeine. So what's the point of this blog? Rambles! Rambles about all sorts of things. Mainly nintendo games, anime, movies, caffeine, and other worldly issues that may or may not tickle my fancy. My identity? Not important, If you know me, thats glorious, if you don't, that too is glorious. So here it is. My first post. More to come!
